Believe it or not, it’s officially spring! The days are getting longer, the sleeves are getting shorter, and the cleaning supplies are coming out for that annual ritual: Spring Cleaning! But as you clean out the coat closet and dust off your desk, don’t forget one of your hardest-working appliances: your computer! If you’re like most people, more and more of your time is spent using the Web in some fashion: researching, shopping, reading news, etc. So why are you still using that 8-year-old web browser? Now is the perfect time to say “out with the old, in with the new” and upgrade! But I Like My Browser! Why Change? If you’re still using Netscape 4, Internet Explorer 5 or a similarly outdated browser, you’re missing out on a great browsing experience; today’s web browsers are sophisticated pieces of software built to conform to the latest web standards and technologies. With an outdated browser, you may be unable to take advantage of innovations that your favorite website has implemented to make your visit more dynamic or more efficient. You’ll find that newer browsers load websites much more quickly than old browsers, too — important for all of us in our busy lives! In addition, by using a newer browser, you’ll be supporting the many companies like Seismic who strive to create forward-thinking, web-standards-compliant sites. Old browsers create stagnation and inhibit innovation on the Web because developers must invest a lot of time and energy accommodating for errors and problems created by those old browsers. Imagine being an auto mechanic who had to continue to service Model Ts! OK, I’m Convinced — Let’s Do Some Spring Cleaning!Congratulations! To get you started, here are some browsers we recommend:
If you are in a workplace that does not allow an individual to install software on his or her own computer, please urge your company’s system administrator to consider upgrading Happy browsing! Sign up below to receive Seismogram, our e-mail newsletter. |
